Successful Disposal of a 300 kg Large-Caliber Shell

At 4:45 p.m. on September 29, 2021, following the chief commander’s countdown and detonation order, our company successfully destroyed a rocket depth charge on an uninhabited island near Wenzhou using controlled blasting. The munition was 1.8 meters long, had a caliber of 0.3 meters, and weighed 300 kg. According to available information, this was the largest individual munition of its type in terms of size and weight to have been disposed of in Zhejiang Province. The operation also destroyed one aerial bomb, four anti-aircraft machine-gun rounds, three grenades/projectiles, and one mortar round.After undertaking the disposal task, the company’s management attached great importance to the operation and promptly assembled a professional technical team to carefully assess the situation and develop a disposal plan. Extensive technical studies were carried out covering the selection of the disposal site, construction of the disposal pit, selection of protective covering materials, transportation by road and sea, and logistical support. Experienced personnel were assigned to the operation, and all work was carried out in strict accordance with applicable safety and technical standards for the disposal of explosives. The company made every effort, in terms of both technical expertise and personnel deployment, to support the public security authorities in the Wenzhou area in eliminating potential safety hazards and ensuring a safe National Day holiday.The operation received strong support and assistance from the public security authorities in Wenzhou, Pingyang, and Ruian, as well as the project department of China Railway Guangzhou Group. The disposal was completed successfully and achieved excellent results, earning high praise from senior officials of the Wenzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau.The successful completion of this task provided our company with valuable practical experience in the safe disposal of large-caliber munitions and marked a significant step forward in our technical capabilities in the field of obsolete munition disposal.
