Carrying Forward the Yan’an Spirit — A Party Members’ Study Tour to Yan’an
In the golden autumn of October, the company’s Party branch organized a study and inspection tour to Yan’an, the revolutionary holy land, for Party members. During the three-day trip, we visited the Yan’an Revolutionary Memorial Hall, the Yangjialing Revolutionary Site, the Zaoyuan Revolutionary Site, Pagoda Hill, Nanniwan, and Liangjiahe Village. Through careful visits to revolutionary sites and the study of historical relics, photographs, and other materials, we gained a deeper understanding of the passionate and extraordinary years of revolution, as well as a more profound appreciation of Yan’an and the Yan’an Spirit.
From 1935 to 1948, Mao Zedong and other leaders of the older generation of proletarian revolutionaries, working in simple and dim cave dwellings, integrated the revolutionary principles of Marxism-Leninism with the realities of the Chinese revolution and formulated the general strategy for the New Democratic Revolution. Under the light of small oil lamps, they wrote numerous brilliant works that determined the direction of the Chinese revolution and guided its development. From the impoverished and underdeveloped region of northern Shaanxi, they commanded the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the War of Liberation, laying a solid foundation for the founding of the People’s Republic of China, cultivating the enduring “Yan’an Spirit,” and creating a magnificent chapter in revolutionary history.
The core elements of the Yan’an Spirit include: a firm and correct political direction; an ideological approach of emancipating the mind and seeking truth from facts; the fundamental purpose of wholeheartedly serving the people; and the spirit of self-reliance, hard work, and entrepreneurship.
Through this study tour, we enriched our historical knowledge and experienced a profound spiritual impact. We gained a deeper understanding of the rich meaning of the Yan’an Spirit. It represents the fine traditions and valuable heritage of the Communist Party of China and remains, whether in the past, present, or future, an important source of strength that inspires us to overcome difficulties and strive forward.
The revolutionary predecessors of the older generation lived in cave dwellings, ate millet, and wore simple clothing. Under extremely challenging material conditions, they overcame countless hardships and defeated powerful domestic and foreign adversaries. The key to their success was their firm ideals and convictions, as well as their spirit of self-reliance and hard work.
Today, with improved material conditions and a better social environment, people across China are working together under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. In our own work and lives, we should continue to carry forward the Yan’an Spirit, approach our duties with a strong sense of responsibility and mission, and perform every task with dedication, diligence, and a rigorous attitude.
