On May 16, 2021, the first blast for the underwater blasting works for foundation excavation of the Lanjiang Grand Bridge, part of the Jinhua–Jiande High-Speed Railway Project (Contract Section JJGTSG I), was successfully carried out by our company. This marked the official launch of full-scale construction.

The Jinhua–Jiande High-Speed Railway is a key project included in China’s Medium- and Long-Term Railway Network Plan (2016–2030) and the 13th Five-Year Railway Development Plan. It plays an important role in strengthening Zhejiang Province’s railway network, improving intercity connectivity in the Yangtze River Delta, and enhancing the region’s economic reach. The underwater blasting works for the foundation excavation of the Lanjiang Grand Bridge represent the project’s primary critical and challenging component. The works involve demanding technical requirements, difficult construction conditions, a complex surrounding environment, extensive coordination, and numerous uncertainties. The project mainly involves removing approximately 50,000 m³ of overburden around the foundations of nine bridge piers, Piers 93 to 101, located in the Lanjiang River, as well as underwater blasting excavation of approximately 25,000 m³ of foundation pits. The entire operation was scheduled to be completed within just 91 days.

After undertaking the project in late March, our company immediately established a dedicated leadership team and quickly assembled a project management team by selecting experienced personnel. We proactively coordinated with the project headquarters, client, general contractor, public security authorities, port and navigation authorities, water resources authorities, and other relevant parties. By working against tight deadlines and maintaining a strong focus on progress, the team carefully planned and efficiently organized all preparatory work. These preparations included the preparation and review of the blasting design and construction plan, approval of the blasting operation, permits for waterborne and underwater construction, mobilization of the construction team, and the design and modification of the drilling and blasting vessel. Despite numerous challenges, the team worked efficiently to establish the necessary conditions for construction within a very short period.

Drilling and Blasting Vessel

After the successful first blast, the company and project team will maintain the drive to “accelerate from the very start and strive to lead from day one,” while also keeping a clear and level-headed approach. Potential issues during construction will be anticipated, identified, and resolved at the earliest possible stage. The team will continue to optimize construction methods, improve efficiency, and steadily advance the project with safety as the top priority, laying a solid foundation for the successful completion of the overall project.
